Our DIY Home Grooming Course is a private, one-on-one session designed for everyday dog owners who want to maintain their dog's coat at home using safe, industry best-practice techniques. Whether you want to maintain your dog between salon visits, improve brushing and coat maintenance, learn safer bathing and drying, start tidying your dog at home, or simply understand grooming tools and coat care, this course gives you practical, realistic skills with your instructor's full attention on you and your dog.

Why learn home grooming?
Grooming is more than maintenance. It's part of caring for your dog. Learning to groom at home helps you keep your dog comfortable, healthy and looking great between professional grooms, and the regular hands-on time builds trust and strengthens the bond you share. You'll spot coat and skin changes earlier, make grooming a calm and positive experience for your dog, and if you choose to, you'll have the skills to take on your dog's grooming yourself. On enrolment you also receive DIY Dog Grooming for Oodles and Mixed Breeds, the online home grooming course produced by igroomhub, valued at $399 and yours with lifetime access. Professionally filmed and led by igroomhub educators Natalie West and Colleen Beagley, it walks through the entire grooming process on camera, from brushing and bathing through to clipping and scissor styling, with every step broken into short video lessons backed by written instructions. There's over 4.5 hours of video and around 10 hours of content in total, and you can pause, replay and rewatch as often as you like.
Work through it before your practical session so you arrive knowing what to expect, then keep it forever as a refresher whenever you groom at home. It covers:

- Brushing and coat maintenance guidance
- Safe bathing and drying techniques
- Nail clipping and hygiene areas

Your practical session
You attend with your own dog for a 3 to 4 hour one-on-one session, working directly alongside an experienced grooming instructor to complete a basic full groom from start to finish. Bathing and blow drying are included as part of the session, so you'll learn the entire process on your own dog, from the wash through to the finish, in a professional salon environment. The session covers:
- Bathing: shampoo selection, safe washing technique and thorough rinsing
- Blow drying and coat straightening with professional dryers
- Brushing and coat preparation
- Nail trimming, sanitary and hygiene areas, paw pad clearing
- Handling and restraint safety
- Clipper and scissor basics
- Coat maintenance techniques, tool handling and safety
- Practical guidance, troubleshooting, and which tools are actually worth investing in for home use
Bring along any grooming tools you already own. We'll show you how to use them safely, tell you honestly whether they're right for home grooming, and suggest what would make things easier. All tools and equipment are provided on the day. Because it's just you, your dog and your instructor, the session is paced around the two of you, and every question gets answered. It's a relaxed, enjoyable few hours focused on learning and bonding with your dog.
