Introduction to Pet Grooming

Start clipping, properly. This accredited short course takes you from bathing and prep into real grooming: clipping a dog from start to finish across coat types, choosing the right tools and equipment, and safe handling throughout. Best taken after Bathe & Prepare Dogs (or with equivalent industry experience bathing and preparing dogs).

How it works

  • Practical component: 3 weeks (15 days) of hands-on training at The Dog Grooming Store.
  • Theory component: online via Heiniger Academy, with up to 6 months to complete from enrolment.
  • Units of competency: ACMGRM303 Provide sanitary and hygiene grooms for companion animals; ACMGRM304 Provide grooms on cross breed dogs; ACMGRM305 Groom dogs to meet breed style and coat requirements (prerequisite units are incorporated in the skill set).
  • Assessment: online short-answer questions and role-play, practical video uploads, and a Grooming Diary of before and after images.
  • You'll build and submit a portfolio of work, and on completion receive a Statement of Attainment, usable as credit transfer toward the ACM30122 Certificate III.

  • Correct bathing, brushing and drying processes
  • Choosing the correct tool for the job and using products to enhance the groom
  • Grooming skills from clipping through to scissor work

The Dog Grooming Store is not a Registered Training Organisation. This course is delivered in conjunction with Heiniger Academy (RTO 40888), the issuing RTO responsible for AQF certification and for the Statement of Attainment you receive on completion.
